Thermal swing coatings are believed to improve the efficiency of combustion engines by reducing the heat transfer to pistons and offering enhanced burn characteristics.
Research is still underway to examine exactly how coatings achieve this, but early signs indicate that these coatings:
- Reduce heat transfer to the piston
- Increase piston work
- Provide a stable burn
- Enhance evaporation and mixing during the intake and compression strokes
